The Power of Connection
Officer Richardson, an 18-year veteran of the force and a local pastor, spent nearly an hour speaking with the man. When the situation reached a critical point, Richardson moved beyond standard protocol and offered a personal connection:
- The Request: Richardson reached out his hand and asked, “Can I at least have a prayer with you? You mind if I just hold your hand and pray with you?”
- The Response: The man accepted. After praying together for several minutes, the man climbed back over the railing to safety.
- The Aftermath: The two shared a long embrace on the pavement, a moment Richardson described as “one human being seeing another brother in pain.”
