In a recent interview with Sky News, Aleema Khan, the sister of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, launched an all-out attack on General Munir, who is set to become the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).2

Accusations of Radicalism and War with India

Aleema Khan directly accused the Army Chief of seeking conflict with Pakistan’s neighbor:

  • Asim Munir: She labelled General Munir a “radicalised Islamist” and an “Islamic conservative” who “yearns for a full-scale war with India,” suggesting his ideology is the driving force behind military aggression.3
    • Munir’s past comments, such as calling Kashmir the “jugular vein” of Pakistan, were cited as a potential trigger for the April Pahalgam attack and India’s subsequent military retaliation, Operation Sindoor, in May.
  • Imran Khan: She contrasted her brother as a pure liberal” who consistently attempts to forge friendly relations with India and the BJP whenever he is in power. She called Imran Khan an “asset” and appealed to Western nations to intensify efforts for his release from jail.

Khan’s Direct Attack on Army Chief

The former Prime Minister himself released a scathing message from Adiala Jail, where he has been detained since 2023 on various charges:

  • Imran Khan referred to Asim Munir as a “mentally unstable tyrant” and the “most tyrannical dictator in history.”4
  • He directly blamed the Army Chief for his imprisonment and the alleged “most severe mental torture” being inflicted upon him and his wife, warning that Munir would be held responsible if anything happened to him in jail.5
  • Khan further alleged that Munir’s policies were “destructive for Pakistan,” claiming he has sacrificed the country to the “cancer of terrorism” for his own personal interests.

These allegations highlight the deep and personal nature of the conflict between Pakistan’s most popular politician and its most powerful military figure.
