An Idaho establishment, Old State Saloon, is drawing widespread national attention—and criticism—after announcing an unprecedented offer on X: free beer for one month to any citizen who successfully helps U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) identify and deport an undocumented immigrant from the state.

The bar, which previously declared June “Heterosexual Awareness Month,” posted the “ALERT” to its social media, which quickly went viral.

DHS Weighs In

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reacted to the post by sharing it and attaching a widely recognized GIF of Earl Sinclair from the TV series Dinosaurs, conveying a look of profound, wide-eyed surprise. The bar embraced the reaction, commenting, “Love it!”

Online Buzz and Enforcement Concerns

  • User Suggestions: The promotion fueled intense commentary online. Some users jokingly suggested creating a “Deporter of the Year” award with free beer for life, while others raised practical questions about reward limits. The bar indicated it would “consider” some of the more elaborate suggestions.
  • Activist Response: The incident coincides with heightened tensions over immigration enforcement. In New York City, activists recently protested near a GSA parking lot to physically block ICE from departing for a raid in Manhattan.
  • Sweeping Enforcement: According to ICE statistics, the current administration’s push for historic deportation levels has affected many long-term residents. As of mid-November, more than two-thirds of the nearly 53,000 people arrested and detained had no prior criminal convictions, highlighting the broad scope of the enforcement efforts.
