Established by the Financial Times in 2021, FT FLIC is an independent charity dedicated to democratizing financial education. Its core mission is to make money management a fundamental life skill, specifically targeting communities that are most vulnerable to financial exclusion and economic shocks.

Target Audiences & Focus Areas

FT FLIC tailors its initiatives toward groups disproportionately affected by the wealth gap:

  • Young People: Creating end-to-end school curriculums to counteract risks like predatory online marketing and high-risk speculative assets.
  • Women: Addressing the gender wealth gap, problem debt, and long-term financial resilience.
  • Marginalized Communities: Partnering with local authorities and youth workers to deliver localized financial training.

The FLIC Learning Hub

The campaign provides free, unbiased, and expert-backed resources through its digital hub:

1. School-Age Curriculums (Ages 11–18)

Accredited by the PSHE Association and NASEN, this downloadable curriculum offers six 50-minute lessons per year group:

  • Ages 11–14: Basic safety, identifying online scams, and reading bank statements.
  • Ages 14–16: Long-term investing, insurance mechanics, and navigating apprenticeships.
  • Ages 16–18: Real-world transition skills, including mortgages, pensions, and ISAs.

2. Adult Learning Modules

Bite-sized, video-led courses designed to build step-by-step money confidence, featuring:

  • Budgeting, saving, and escaping debt (co-created with charities like StepChange).
  • Navigating freelance, contract, or gig-economy earnings.
  • Demystifying credit options, mortgages, and investments.

3. Specialized Toolkits

Targeted financial guides designed for specific demographics, including unpaid carers and members of the British Armed Forces.

Impact & Recognition

Backed by widespread fundraising and a network of volunteer ambassadors, FT FLIC has successfully scaled into major school trusts. Its practical, visually engaging approach won the Free Educational Resources Award at the Education Resources Awards 2026 and the Best School-Age Financial Education Project at the Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIA).
