Rachel Goldberg-Polin, who became a global symbol of maternal strength and relentless advocacy, has authored a memoir documenting her son’s abduction and the 330-day struggle that followed. Titled “When We See You Again,” the book is described as a “harrowing and deeply human” account of a mother’s love in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

A Journey of Advocacy and Loss

The memoir traces the timeline from the October 7, 2023, attack at the Nova music festival—where her son, Hersh, was wounded and kidnapped—to the tragic discovery of his body in Gaza in September 2024.

Key themes explored in the book include:

  • Global Activism: Behind-the-scenes accounts of her meetings with world leaders, including President Biden and Pope Francis, as she lobbied for the release of all hostages.
  • The Power of Symbols: The story behind the masking tape she wore daily, marked with the number of days since the abduction, which sparked a worldwide movement of solidarity.
  • The Language of Grief: Goldberg-Polin writes with “raw and unflinching” honesty about the transition from a hopeful advocate to a grieving mother.

In Her Own Words

Goldberg-Polin has stated that writing the memoir was a way to “write her pain” and navigate the “million-mile odyssey” of loss. To maintain the intimacy of her story, she will personally narrate the audiobook edition.

“I wrote this because I had to. It is a testament to Hersh, to the people we lost, and to the endurance of the human spirit when it is pushed to its absolute limit.” — Rachel Goldberg-Polin
