Ohio Polygamist Faces Decades in Prison for Orchestrating Weeklong Torture of Boyfriend

At the center of the case is 28-year-old Martina Jones (also known as Martina Esqueda Jones), who prosecutors describe as the mastermind behind a coordinated attack on another romantic interest.

The Plot and the Week of Terror

The ordeal began in March 2025 following a domestic dispute. According to police and court records, Jones rallied a group of five men with whom she shared overlapping romantic relationships and families to target a 26-year-old boyfriend.

The group—consisting of Jones, her husband Michael Esqueda, and four additional lovers (Aaron Bradshaw, Austin Bradshaw, David Cessna, and Chance Johnston)—abducted the victim and held him captive at a local Red Roof Inn.

Over the course of seven days, the victim endured severe physical and psychological abuse:

  • Brutal Assaults: The captors repeatedly beat the victim using a metal baseball bat, alongside fists and feet.
  • Extreme Deprivation: He was forced to stand for long intervals, restricted to just one meal and drink per day, and allowed a total of only 10 hours of sleep across the entire week.
  • The Escape: The victim’s nightmare finally ended when his captors permitted him to leave the hotel room briefly to visit a nearby convenience store. He used the opportunity to contact an acquaintance, who alerted his mother, leading to a prompt 911 call and police rescue.

A Lucas County grand jury indicted all six individuals on heavy felony charges, including kidnapping to terrorize or inflict serious physical harm, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence.

As the cases progressed through the legal system, members of the group began to face accountability:

  • Michael Esqueda (Husband): Pleaded guilty to first-degree felony kidnapping and felonious assault. In late December 2025, he was sentenced to at least 16 years in prison.
  • The Accomplices: Co-defendants faced individual trials and plea deals; Aaron Bradshaw pleaded guilty to felonious assault and tampering with evidence, with his legal proceedings extending into early 2026.
  • Martina Jones: As the alleged ringleader who directed the entire operation, Jones faced the most severe legal scrutiny. Across multiple counts of kidnapping, domestic violence, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence, her trial track carried massive maximum exposure, pointing toward decades of potential prison time for organizing the coordinated scheme.
