The Incident

The assault took place on January 27, 2026, during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis. While Rep. Omar was addressing the crowd, Kazmierczak approached the stage and sprayed her with a syringe filled with a liquid later identified as water and apple cider vinegar.

  • Outcome: Representative Omar was uninjured and, after security intervened, resumed the meeting.
  • Motive: Kazmierczak admitted the attack was politically motivated, stating his opposition to the congresswoman’s views.

Courtroom Revelations

Appearing before U.S. District Judge Joan N. Ericksen, Kazmierczak entered his plea as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors.

  • Personal Background: During the hearing, Kazmierczak noted he was receiving treatment for several health conditions, including Parkinson’s disease and PTSD, and described his memory of the specific moment as “fuzzy.”
  • Pattern of Behavior: Investigations highlighted a history of hostility toward Omar, including previous comments made to associates regarding his desire to see her harmed.

Kazmierczak is currently in custody awaiting sentencing. Because the incident involved physical contact with a federal official, he faces a maximum statutory sentence of eight years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen addressed the case following the plea, noting that the prosecution serves as a response to the “dangerous” rise in criminal acts directed at public officials.
