British Columbia has officially welcomed its first arrival of 2026! Born at Kelowna General Hospital at exactly 12:18 a.m., this little one weighed in at 6 lbs, 8 oz.

While the family is keeping things private, we’re sending a huge congratulations to them and the team at Interior Health! This marks the second year in a row the province’s first baby was born in the Interior region.

B.C.’s First Baby of 2026 Arrives in Kelowna

The first baby of the New Year in British Columbia was born at 12:18 a.m. on January 1, 2026, at Kelowna General Hospital.

Following closely behind, the Fraser Health region welcomed its first baby at 12:53 a.m. at Ridge Meadows Hospital. Congratulations to all the new parents across the province!

A New Year’s First for Kelowna

Kelowna General Hospital is in the spotlight today as the birthplace of British Columbia’s very first baby of 2026! Arriving just 18 minutes past midnight, the newborn weighed 6 lbs, 8 oz.

It’s a proud moment for our local healthcare teams at KGH and a beautiful start to the year for one lucky family. Join us in wishing them a healthy and happy 2026!
