Islamabad/Washington D.C. – On Thursday, July 31, the United States and Pakistan finalized a trade agreement. The deal aims to significantly reduce reciprocal tariffs, particularly benefiting Pakistani exports to the US. While the new tariff rates weren’t immediately specified, Pakistan had faced a 29% reciprocal tariff as recently as April. This agreement is also set to stimulate increased U.S. investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and development projects.

Following the signing, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, revealing a key component of the deal: “We have just concluded a Deal with the Country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive Oil Reserves. We are in the process of choosing the Oil Company that will lead this Partnership. Who knows, maybe they’ll be selling Oil to India some day!”

This development comes as Trump has frequently brought up his disputed claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, which the Indian government has consistently denied.
