2026–2027 U.S. Market Holiday Schedule

When major federal holidays roll around, Wall Street usually takes the day off. Regular U.S. stock market hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.

While extended-hours trading is available for stocks and ETFs, lower volume after hours means higher volatility and wider price spreads.

2026 Stock Market Holidays

The NYSE and Nasdaq will be completely closed on the following days in 2026:

  • New Year’s Day: Thursday, Jan. 1
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 19
  • Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 16
  • Good Friday: Friday, April 3
  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 25
  • Juneteenth: Friday, June 19
  • Independence Day (Observed): Friday, July 3
  • Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 7
  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 26
  • Christmas Day: Friday, Dec. 25

2026 Early Closings (1:00 p.m. ET): Friday, Nov. 27 (Black Friday) and Thursday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve).

2027 Stock Market Holidays

The NYSE and Nasdaq will be completely closed on the following days in 2027:

  • New Year’s Day: Friday, Jan. 1
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 18
  • Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 15
  • Good Friday: Friday, March 26
  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 31
  • Juneteenth (Observed): Friday, June 18
  • Independence Day (Observed): Monday, July 5
  • Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 6
  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 25
  • Christmas Day (Observed): Friday, Dec. 24

2027 Early Closing (1:00 p.m. ET): Friday, Nov. 26 (Black Friday).

The Weekend Rule: If a fixed-date holiday (like Christmas) falls on a Saturday, the market closes the preceding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, the market closes the following Monday. (Exception: If New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday, the market stays open on Friday).

Days the Stock Market Stays Open

Unless they fall on a weekend, the stock market operates with regular hours on these cultural and religious holidays:

  • Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Halloween, Boxing Day.
  • Ash Wednesday, Ramadan, Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Chanukah, Kwanzaa.
  • New Year’s Eve (Note: The bond market closes early on NYE).
