July Payment Schedule

• Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Paid on the 1st of the month (or the preceding business day if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday).
• Birthdays 1st – 10th: Paid on the second Wednesday.
• Birthdays 11th – 20th: Paid on the third Wednesday.
• Birthdays 21st – 31st: Paid on the fourth Wednesday.

Who Is Eligible?

• Retirement Benefits: You must be at least 62 years old and have earned at least 40 work credits (roughly 10 years of work paying Social Security taxes).
• Disability & Special Criteria: Individuals who are disabled or blind may qualify based on medical and work history.
• Family Members: Spouses, ex-spouses, survivors, dependent parents, and children of eligible workers may also receive benefits. Their payment date is based on the primary beneficiary’s birthday.

How Payments Are Delivered

By law, almost all federal benefit payments are sent electronically. You can receive your money via:

• Direct Deposit (into a bank account)
• Direct Express Debit Mastercard

Note: Direct deposits usually arrive by 9 a.m. on your payment date. Paper checks are rare and can take up to 3 business days to arrive by mail.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Delayed

1. Check Your Bank: Contact your financial institution first to see if there is a posting delay.
2. Wait 3 Days: If you receive paper checks, wait three business days before taking further action.
3. Contact the SSA: Call 1-800-772-1213 or log into your my Social Security account to manage your benefits, verify your address, and set up payment notifications.

Applying for Initial Benefits

• When to Apply: Apply up to four months before you want your benefits to start to avoid processing delays due to agency staffing and tech backlogs.
• How to Apply: Submit your application online via your my Social Security account or make an appointment by calling 1-800-333-1795.
• Processing Time: It generally takes at least one month after approval to receive your first check.
