Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the incident, stating that two National Guard members had been wounded. The shooting occurred only a few streets from the White House.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed the shooting and later announced that a suspect was in custody. However, authorities have not yet released details regarding the identities or conditions of the wounded victims, nor the identity of the suspect. A Secret Service agent reportedly identified the victims to a White House correspondent as National Guard members.

A White House spokeswoman confirmed that President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting.

The area around the White House was immediately locked down by a heavy police presence, with officers armed with assault rifles securing multiple blocks. Police vehicles and ambulances were seen lining the streets as the investigation began.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
