Iranian Vessels Maneuver East to Bypass Blockade

Evidence from ship tracking data suggests that Iranian-flagged vessels are navigating around the U.S. naval blockade by departing from ports outside the primary conflict zone.

Key Vessel Movements

  • Ashkan3 (Cargo Ship): Departed the vicinity of Chabahar port on April 13. Tracking shows the vessel is currently unladen and heading east toward Pakistan.
  • Shabdis (Container Ship): Also left the Chabahar area on April 13 without cargo. It is currently sailing near India, listing Zhuhai, China, as its final destination.

Strategic Observations

  • Geographic Advantage: Both ships originated from Chabahar, located hundreds of kilometers east of the Strait of Hormuz. This allowed them to head into the Arabian Sea without crossing the Strait after the blockade officially commenced.
  • Status of Blockade: While both ships are flying the Iranian flag, they have avoided direct confrontation within the Strait of Hormuz. Their eastward trajectories indicate an attempt to maintain maritime corridors toward Asia despite the heightened naval presence in the region.

Note: These movements represent the first significant test of the blockade’s perimeter since it went into effect on April 13, 2026.
