A 21-year-old Indian engineering student, Shaurya Sriram, lost his life in a drowning accident during an Easter holiday trip with friends at Lake Taupō, New Zealand.

The incident took place at Whakamoenga Point in Acacia Bay, a well-known spot on Lake Taupō.
- The Accident: Around 3:20 PM, Sriram entered the water but quickly found himself in distress after moving into a deeper section of the lake.
- Rescue Efforts: Friends managed to pull him from the water unconscious. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation by both his peers and arriving emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Legal Proceedings: New Zealand Police have confirmed that the death has been referred to the Coroner for a formal investigation.
