A 21-year-old Indian engineering student, Shaurya Sriram, lost his life in a drowning accident during an Easter holiday trip with friends at Lake Taupō, New Zealand.

Originally from Mumbai, Sriram was a student at the University of Auckland. He had traveled to the popular destination to celebrate the long weekend when the tragedy occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, April 5, 2026.
