Florida Teenager Faces Adult Charges in Death of Stepsister Aboard Cruise Ship

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to federal prosecutors, the incident took place aboard the Carnival Horizon while the vessel was navigating international waters toward Miami. The victim, Anna Kepner, a high school cheerleader from Titusville, was discovered deceased in a stateroom she shared with the suspect and another minor.

A housekeeper discovered Kepner’s body concealed beneath a bed. Following an autopsy, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as mechanical asphyxiation.

Shift to Adult Court

While the case began in the juvenile system in February 2026, U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom recently approved a motion to transfer Timothy Hudson to adult court. This decision was based on the “heinous nature” of the crimes.

Key legal points include:

  • The Indictment: Hudson faces federal charges of first-degree murder and sexual abuse resulting in death.
  • Sentencing: If convicted as an adult, Hudson faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
  • Pretrial Status: Hudson had previously been released to the custody of an uncle under electronic monitoring. However, following the formal indictment, prosecutors are seeking to revoke his release, arguing he poses a significant risk to public safety.

Family Statement

The Kepner family has requested privacy as they navigate the legal process. In a brief statement, Christopher Kepner, Anna’s father, expressed his hope for a thorough investigation, stating, “We are heartbroken and seek only for the truth to be revealed through the proper channels of justice.”
