Fatal Hit-and-Run in Brant County: Suspect Apprehended

A 65-year-old man is facing charges following a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a cyclist in southwestern Ontario on Sunday morning.

The Incident

The collision occurred in Glen Morris, a community situated between Cambridge and Brantford. Just after 8:30 a.m., a passing driver discovered a 68-year-old cyclist from Cambridge lying in a ditch along East River Road. Despite emergency response efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene due to life-threatening injuries.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shut down a stretch of East River Road for the majority of Sunday to collect evidence and analyze vehicle debris found near the victim.

By Sunday evening, investigators successfully:

  • Located the suspect vehicle.
  • Arrested a 65-year-old resident of Brant County.
  • Charged the driver with failing to stop at an accident resulting in death.

What’s Next

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Brantford courtroom on February 27, 2026.

While an arrest has been made, the OPP is still urging the public for assistance. They are looking for:

  • Dashcam footage from anyone driving near East River Road early Sunday morning.
  • Home surveillance from nearby residents that may have captured the vehicle involved.
