What You Need to Know

The advisory, which began on December 30, 2025, is no longer in effect for:

  • Montgomery
  • Parkdale
  • West Hillhurst
  • Point McKay

Residents in these areas are no longer required to boil their water for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.

Recommended “Flush” Procedure

To ensure any stagnant water or sediment is cleared from your home’s plumbing, the City recommends the following:

  1. Main Flush: Run your bathtub’s cold water tap for 10 minutes.
  2. Kitchen/Bath Faucets: Run all other cold water taps for 5 minutes.
  3. Appliances: Flush any refrigerators with water dispensers or ice makers by discarding the first few batches of ice or liters of water.

Status of Water Restrictions & Repairs

While the water is safe to drink, the city’s water system is still under significant pressure. Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions remain in place for Calgary and neighboring municipalities (Airdrie, Chestermere, and Strathmore).

  • Conservation Needed: Residents are asked to continue limiting indoor water use (short showers and full laundry loads only) while crews complete the structural repairs.
  • Traffic Impact: 16 Avenue NW remains partially closed. One eastbound lane is open near Sarcee Trail, but motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes like Crowchild Trail or Stoney Trail.
