Bay Area ROCKED by Earthquake Swarm: No Damage Reported

A rapid succession of small earthquakes shook the San Francisco Bay Area early Sunday morning, reminding residents of the region’s constant seismic risk.

A swarm of at least eight tremors rattled homes across the East Bay, all striking in a short three-minute window between 9:38 am and 9:41 am (local time).

  • Epicenter: Centered southeast of San Ramon, roughly 25-30 miles east of San Francisco.
  • Strongest Quake: Measured Magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale.
  • Range: The other quakes ranged from $2.5$ to $3.7$.

While residents in San Ramon, Dublin, and Emeryville reported feeling a “quick, rolling motion,” emergency services confirmed that no injuries or structural damage have been reported. Quakes above Magnitude $2.5$ are typically felt but rarely cause serious damage.

The Bay Area is a highly active seismic zone, situated along the Calaveras and Hayward fault lines. This latest swarm follows a series of minor quakes reported near the UC Berkeley campus in September and October.
