The strike hit a facility in Burj Qalawiya during a period of intense regional escalation. The victims—comprising doctors, paramedics, and nurses—were reportedly on duty when the building was struck. This attack followed a separate strike earlier in the day in the town of Sawaneh, which claimed the lives of two additional paramedics.
Escalating Humanitarian Crisis
Since the surge in hostilities began in early March 2026, the toll on Lebanon’s infrastructure and civilian population has reached a critical point:
- Medical Casualties: Over 25 verified attacks on the healthcare sector have been recorded in the last two weeks.
- Total Toll: Since March 2, the Lebanese Health Ministry reports over 770 fatalities and nearly 2,000 injuries.
- Displacement: Approximately 822,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to the widening conflict.
Official Stance
- Lebanese Health Ministry: Condemned the strike as a “blatant violation of international law,” highlighting that medical personnel and facilities are protected under humanitarian conventions.
- Israeli Military (IDF): Maintains that strikes are precisely targeted at Hezbollah infrastructure and weapon supply lines, though they have acknowledged striking dual-use infrastructure like bridges and centers they claim are used for military purposes.
