The Incident

The Wasaya Airways flight was en route to the remote community of Kasabonika Lake when a passenger, identified as Rayanne Anderson, allegedly became violent. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the woman assaulted a male passenger mid-flight.

Faced with a high-risk situation in a confined cabin, the pilot made the tactical decision to return to the Sioux Lookout Municipal Airport, where police were waiting on the tarmac.

Criminal Charges

Upon landing, Anderson was taken into custody. During the arrest, officers discovered a quantity of suspected crack cocaine. She now faces a combination of violent crime and drug-related charges:

  • Assault: For the physical altercation on the plane.
  • Endangering the Safety of an Aircraft: A serious charge involving the disruption of flight security.
  • Drug Trafficking: Specifically, possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking.

Release and Next Steps

Following a bail hearing on January 10, Anderson was released on $200 bail (no deposit required) under strict conditions. She is currently:

  • Prohibited from contacting the victim.
  • Required to remain in Kasabonika Lake.
  • Banned from visiting Sioux Lookout, except for documented medical emergencies.

She is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wunnumin Lake on January 19, 2026.
