EU Leaders Mock Trump’s Geography Gaffes on Hot Mic
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!European leaders were caught on a hot mic at a summit this week ridiculing President Donald Trump for his repeated geographical blunders, particularly his confusion between Armenia and Albania when discussing a peace deal he brokered.
The incident occurred at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was overheard teasing French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev about Trump’s mix-up.
“You should make an apology to us…because you didn’t congratulate us on the peace deal that President Trump made between Albania and Azerbaijan,” Rama quipped to Macron, sending Aliyev into laughter. Macron offered a sarcastic apology in return: “I am sorry for that.”
The Gaffes that Sparked the Ridicule
The joke stemmed from Trump’s consistent misidentification of the nations involved in the truce he brokered in August. The actual deal was a truce between Armenia and Azerbaijan, ending decades of conflict. However, Trump has repeatedly replaced “Armenia” with “Albania.”
Other notable geographical errors cited include:
- Calling Azerbaijan “Aber-baijan” and stating he “settled Aber-baijan and Albania.”
- Telling Fox News that he had ended an “unsolvable war” between Azerbaijan and Albania.
- Claiming in a speech to have ended a conflict between Cambodia and Armenia, two countries nearly 7,000 kilometers apart with no history of conflict.
- Asserting that the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan had been “dragged on for a thousand years.”
The leaders’ private laughter over the matter highlighted the attention Trump’s geographical confusion has drawn on the international stage.
