“I’m Good at Solving Wars”: Denied Nobel, Trump Eyes Afghan-Pakistan Conflict

US President Donald Trump is touting his record as a global peacemaker, claiming the recent Israel-Hamas truce is the “eighth war” he has resolved. As he departed for a high-stakes Middle East trip, Trump dismissed claims that he sought the Nobel Peace Prize, stating his efforts were strictly for “saving lives.”

The Gaza Ceasefire and Peace Tour

Trump announced that the two-year-long Gaza conflict is “over” following a US-brokered ceasefire and hostage deal. He is now traveling to the region—his first visit since the truce—to secure the fragile peace:

  • Middle East Itinerary: He will first address the Knesset in Jerusalem, an honor last extended to George W. Bush. He will then co-chair a peace summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Sharm el-Sheikh, attended by over 20 world leaders.
  • Deal Progress: The trip aims to consolidate the ceasefire, advance reconstruction in Gaza, and build on momentum toward regional normalization. Trump anticipated the release of 20 living Israeli hostages (and the return of remains) in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners will be completed early this week.

Tariffs as a Tool for Peace

In an oft-repeated claim, Trump again asserted that economic pressure, not traditional diplomacy, was key to his success:

  • India-Pakistan: He took credit for averting war between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, insisting he settled the tensions “within 24 hours” by threatening massive tariffs (100% to 200%) on both nations if they fought.
  • Solving Wars: He boasted that his administration has resolved multiple global disputes, citing conflicts lasting decades, with one going for 37 years, and claiming to have them “done, for the most part, within a day.”

Next Target: Afghanistan and Pakistan

Turning his attention to new global flashpoints, Trump singled out the escalating cross-border conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, where heavy clashes were recently reported.

  • New Peace Effort: He stated he would take up the matter after his return from the Middle East, declaring, “I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said, I’ll have to wait till I get back. I am doing another one. Because I am good at solving wars.”
