Tragedy Strikes Salt Lake City Funeral: 2 Dead, 6 Wounded in Church Parking Lot Shooting

A gathering intended for mourning turned into a scene of violence Wednesday evening when a shooting erupted outside a Salt Lake City church, leaving two people dead and several others fighting for their lives.

The Incident

The gunfire broke out at approximately 7:36 p.m. in the parking lot of a meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 660 North Redwood Road. At the time of the shooting, a funeral service was being conducted inside the building.

Casualties and Current Status

• Deceased: Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
• Injured: Six victims were transported to local hospitals; at least three remain in critical condition.
• Investigation: Salt Lake City Police indicate the violence was likely sparked by a verbal altercation in the parking lot that escalated into gunfire.

The Manhunt

The Salt Lake City Police Department, with assistance from the FBI, has launched an intensive investigation. No suspects are currently in custody.
