RICHMOND, VA — A violent escalation in Richmond’s historic entertainment district left two people dead and seven others wounded early Saturday morning, February 21, 2026. What began as a physical altercation in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood quickly turned fatal when multiple individuals opened fire into a crowd.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. as nightlife crowds were beginning to disperse. According to Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards, the gunfire appears to have stemmed from a fight where “bystanders or associates” intervened, leading to a deadly exchange of bullets.
- Fatalities: A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
- The Injured: Seven additional victims—four women and three men—suffered various gunshot wounds and are being treated at area hospitals.
