The Incident

Just after midnight, the bus—carrying 34 passengers—was entering a curved exit ramp at the Krapyak toll way in Semarang. According to Budiono, the local search and rescue agency chief, the vehicle struck a concrete barrier at high speed before flipping onto its side.

The force of the crash was so severe that several passengers were ejected from their seats, while others became pinned between the road and the mangled frame of the bus.

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

Emergency teams and police reached the site approximately 40 minutes after the crash. The toll of the accident includes:

  • 6 fatalities discovered at the scene.
  • 10 fatalities occurring during transport or shortly after arriving at the hospital.
  • 18 survivors currently hospitalized, with five listed in critical condition.

Scene Investigation

Television footage from the site showed the yellow bus resting on its side as rescue workers from the National Search and Rescue Agency worked to extricate victims. An investigation is expected to follow to determine if mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the loss of control on the ramp.
