Supreme Court Amends Office Hours: New Timings Effective July 14, 2025

SUPREME COURT OF INDIA
NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 14th June, 2025
G.S.R. 385(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by article 145 of the Constitution of
India and all other enabling provisions in this behalf, the Supreme Court, with the approval of the
President, hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Supreme Court Rules, 2013
namely:-

  1. (1) These rules may be called the Supreme Court (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
    (2) They shall come into force on the 14th day of July, 2025.
  2. In the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, in Order II, for rules 1 to 3, the following rules shall be
    substituted, namely:-
    “1. Except during partial Court working days and on Saturdays and holidays, the offices of
    the Court, shall, subject to any order by the Chief Justice, be open daily from 10.00 A.M.
    to 5.00 P.M., but no work, unless of an urgent nature, shall be admitted after 4.30 P.M
  1. The offices of the Court shall, except during partial Court working days, be open on
    Saturdays from 10.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M., but no work, unless of an urgent nature, shall be
    admitted after 12 Noon.
  2. Except on the days which are holidays both for the Court and the offices of the Court, the
    offices of the Court shall be open during partial Court working days and Christmas and New
    Year holidays of the Court at such times as the Chief Justice may direct”.

    Note.- The principal rules were published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3,
    Sub-section (i), vide Notification number G.S.R. 368(E), dated the 29th May, 2014 and
    subsequently amended vide Notification number G.S.R. 670(E), dated the 18th September,
    2019, G.S.R. 457(E), dated the 16th July, 2024, G.S.R. 688(E), dated the 5th November, 2024
    and G.S.R. 163 (E), dated the 7th March, 2025.
