During the sentencing, prosecutors revealed that Pearce had also been accused of rape by a police officer, Lauren Craven, who recently died a heroic death while helping others.

The Deaths and Sentencing

Pearce was convicted in the deaths of model Christy Giles (24) and designer Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola (26). The two women met Pearce at a party and later went to his home, where he supplied them with GHB (a “date rape drug”) and fentanyl. Hours later, surveillance footage showed the women being dropped off—unconscious—by masked men at separate hospitals. Giles was pronounced dead; Cabrales-Arzola died 11 days later.

Rape Accusations, Including One by a Hero

Officer Lauren Craven (25) of the La Mesa Police Department was one of seven women—referred to as “Jane Doe No. 5” during the trial—who accused Pearce of rape in incidents spanning from 2007 to 2021. Prosecutors disclosed Craven’s identity and accusation as Pearce received his lengthy sentence.

Tragically, just last week, Officer Craven was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to assist people trapped in an overturned car on Interstate 8. The La Mesa Police Department commended her actions, stating they “exemplified her unwavering dedication to service and the safety of others.”
