The monumental rollout, which coincides with BSNL’s silver jubilee, instantly places India in a select group of nations capable of manufacturing its own cutting-edge telecom equipment.
Key Infrastructure & Technology Milestones
- Massive Scale: PM Modi commissioned over 97,500 mobile towers across the country, including 92,600 4G sites, built at a cost of approximately ₹37,000 crore.
- Homegrown Power: This is a fully ‘Swadeshi’ (indigenous) 4G stack—developed by a consortium led by Indian companies.
- The Core Network was developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT).
- The Radio Access Network (RAN) was provided by Tejas Networks.
- The entire system was integrated by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
- Future-Ready: The cloud-based network is designed for seamless upgradation to 5G, securing India’s digital future.
- Green Telecom: The deployment features solar-powered towers, making it one of the country’s largest clusters of sustainable telecom infrastructure.

- Rural Reach: It will connect over 26,700 previously unserved villages, including remote and Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas.
