New York City authorities are hunting for suspects after a 37-year-old man was intentionally set ablaze while sleeping on a sidewalk outside Penn Station on Monday night.

- When: Monday, March 2, 2026, around 8:30 p.m.
- Where: West 31st Street and 8th Avenue, near the Amtrak entrance.
- The Attack: A group of men approached the sleeping victim and lit his clothing on fire before fleeing into the station.
- Victim’s Condition: He is currently stable at Weill Cornell Medical Center with second-degree burns.
Suspect Search
The NYPD and Amtrak Police are searching for three individuals:
- Suspect 1: Black jacket, blue jeans.
- Suspect 2: Brown jacket, grey pants.
- Suspect 3: All black clothing, shoulder-length hair.
Note: While one individual was reportedly detained for questioning, the investigation remains active as police work to identify the remaining culprits.
A Growing Pattern
This assault mirrors a similar “fire attack” from last December on a 3 train, raising concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals in the city’s transit hubs.
