It’s July 17, 2025, and while the Income Tax Department hasn’t yet rolled out the full online filing utility for ITR-2 and ITR-3 with pre-filled data, you still have options to file your returns.
Current Status: Partial Online Filing Available
Currently, you can’t directly file ITR-2 and ITR-3 on the e-filing portal using the pre-filled data. However, the good news is that the Excel utilities for these forms were released on July 11, 2025. This means you can still file your returns partially online:
- Download the relevant Excel utility for ITR-2 or ITR-3.
- Fill in all your details and validate them within the Excel file.
- Convert the file to JSON format.
- Upload the JSON file to the Income Tax portal to complete your filing.
No Need to Worry About the Delay
If you’re feeling a bit anxious about the delay, don’t be! The Income Tax Department has already extended the due date for ITR filing for non-audit cases to September 15, 2025. This gives you plenty of time. It’s highly anticipated that the full online filing facility for ITR-2 and ITR-3, with pre-filled data, will be enabled very soon.
Who Files ITR-2 and ITR-3?
- ITR-2 is for salaried taxpayers and others with income above ₹50 lakh, but without any income from business or profession.
- ITR-3 is used by individuals with income from a business or profession.
For now, only ITR-1 and ITR-4 can be filed online with pre-filled data on the e-filing portal.
