Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has cast serious doubt on the future of peace negotiations, declaring on Wednesday that three key pillars of a 10-point ceasefire proposal have been “openly and clearly violated.” These breaches, according to Qalibaf, render the prospect of a bilateral truce or continued talks in Islamabad “unreasonable” for the time being.

Qalibaf highlighted specific incidents that he claims have fundamentally undermined the diplomatic framework:
- Hostilities in Lebanon: Despite a truce supposedly covering Lebanese territory, a massive coordinated strike resulted in over 250 deaths in Beirut and surrounding areas. Qalibaf cited this as a primary breach of the agreement’s intent.
- Airspace Incursion: Iranian defenses reportedly intercepted and destroyed an “intruding drone” over the city of Lar in Fars Province. This act was labeled a direct violation of the clause prohibiting airspace infringements.
- Enrichment Recognition: A dispute has emerged regarding the sixth clause of the framework. Qalibaf asserts it recognized Iran’s right to uranium enrichment—a point he claims is now being walked back or ignored by international parties.
Strategic Context
The 10-point proposal was initially seen as a rare diplomatic opening in a conflict that has already reshaped the region’s leadership and triggered a global energy crisis.
The situation remains volatile, especially given that U.S. President Donald Trump had previously referred to the proposal as a “workable basis” for peace. However, with the Islamabad talks now in jeopardy, the path toward de-escalation appears increasingly narrow.
