How to Check Your ITR Status for AY 2025-26

After filing your Income Tax Return (ITR), it’s important to check its status to ensure the tax department has received it and to track any potential refunds.

Here’s a simple guide on how to check your ITR status online.

Method 1: Check ITR Status by Logging In

This is the most detailed way to check your status.

  1. Log in to the e-Filing Portal: Go to the official Income Tax e-Filing portal and log in with your PAN and password.
  2. Navigate to Filed Returns: From your dashboard, click on e-File > Income Tax Returns > View Filed Returns.
  3. Find Your Return: On the next page, you’ll see a list of all your submitted returns. Use the “Filter” option to select Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26.
  4. View Details: Click on View Details next to your return. This will show you its full life cycle and current status.

From this page, you can also download your ITR-V Acknowledgement and the full ITR form in PDF format.

Method 2: Check ITR Status Without Logging In

This method is quick and easy if you have your acknowledgement number.

  2. Click on “ITR Status”: Look for the Income Tax Return (ITR) Status link under the “Quick Links” section.
  3. Enter Your Details: Provide your Acknowledgement Number and a mobile number.
  4. Get the Status: An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your mobile. Enter it to view the status of your ITR.
