US Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) announced his plan to introduce sweeping legislation that would enforce a complete freeze on all immigration to the United States. The Congressman, a prominent hard-line conservative, stated that this halt would remain in effect until a list of major reforms is enacted, which he deems “essential for security.”

Key Demands for Ending the Freeze
Speaking on The Benny Show, Roy outlined the stringent prerequisites that must be met before any form of immigration is allowed to resume. These objectives focus heavily on national security and cultural assimilation:
- Reform Chain Migration: Overhaul the system that allows citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor family members for immigration.
- End H-1B Visas: Terminate the visa program for high-skilled foreign workers.
- Address Birthright Citizenship: Change current laws regarding automatic citizenship for those born on US soil.
- Ideological Vetting: Introduce a vetting process to screen potential immigrants for their “adherence to Sharia law.”
Justification: Security and Assimilation
Roy grounded his proposal in concerns over national security and cultural integration. He argued that the country is grappling with a “massive Islamism problem” and a widespread issue involving communities that are growing up with “no desire to assimilate and come here, to become American and embrace Western civilisation, embrace our Constitution, and embrace our values.”
Context: Alignment with Trump’s Stance
The proposed bill aligns with the hard-line immigration policies championed by President Donald Trump. Roy’s comments follow a recent action by the administration to revamp the H-1B visa process, which included a proclamation raising the fee for new H-1B applications to $100,000 (up from roughly $1,500), though this change was later clarified to apply only to applicants entering the lottery after a specific date in September.
