In the video, Newsom stated, “I want to see trans kids. I have a trans godson. No governor’s done more pro trans legislation than I have.”
The Governor’s Office Mocks Musk
In a surprising escalation, the Governor’s press office fired back at the criticism directed at the video with a direct and personal attack on Musk: “Correct. We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon.”
This comment referred to Vivian Wilson, Musk’s daughter who was formerly known as Xavier. In 2022, Wilson, an aspiring model, successfully petitioned to change her name, gender, and dropped the surname Musk, distancing herself from her father and his anti-trans views.
Musk Accuses Newsom of “Weaponizing” Mental Illness
The personal attack immediately drew Elon Musk into the confrontation. He accused Newsom of weaponizing a private family matter for political advantage and promoting what he terms the “evil woke mind virus.”
Musk responded by stating: “I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children.” He affirmed his love for his child and expressed a hope for their “recovery.”
The exchange underscores the deep political and ideological divide between the two figures, particularly on issues surrounding gender identity and LGBTQ+ legislation in California.
