The Ceremony and Public Tribute

The day began with a solemn religious service at the Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church. While the service inside was kept private for close family and friends, the scale of the public’s affection was visible throughout the town:

  • Live Broadcasts: Large screens were erected at the harbor to allow locals and fans to witness the ceremony.
  • Notable Attendees: In addition to her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, the funeral was attended by representatives of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and several political figures.
  • National Recognition: Though President Macron did not attend in person, he issued a statement calling her a “monument of French culture.”

The Final Resting Place

In a move away from her previous wish to be buried on her private estate (La Madrague), Bardot is being interred at the Cimetière Marin (Marine Cemetery).

  • The Family Vault: She will rest alongside her parents and grandparents in the family plot.
  • Full Circle: The cemetery also houses the remains of Roger Vadim, the director and her first husband who helped launch her to international stardom in the 1950s.

Legacy and Health Revelations

In the days leading up to the burial, her husband confirmed that Bardot had been privately battling cancer for some time. Despite her health struggles and two surgeries, those close to her noted that her focus never wavered from her animal welfare mission. Her foundation has stated that her work will continue as her primary legacy.

“I gave my youth and my beauty to men; I give my wisdom and my experience to animals.”Brigitte Bardot
