Investigators believe Patel was a key participant in a conspiracy that operated between 2017 and 2021. The fraud typically followed a specific pattern:
- Impersonation: Victims were contacted via phone and told their personal data was compromised or linked to crimes.
- Extortion: Victims were pressured into “clearing” their names by sending cash or prepaid cards to specific locations.
- Logistics: Patel is accused of coordinating the receipt and movement of these illicit funds.
Wanted Person Profile
A federal warrant was issued for Patel in Kentucky in mid-2023. He remains at large and is considered a fugitive.
- Aliases: “Kenny” or “Mecco.”
- Known Locations: Frequently tied to Chicago, Illinois, and parts of Pennsylvania.
- Physical Description: 5’9″, medium build (approx. 185 lbs), black hair, and brown eyes.
- Background: He has previously been employed as a cashier and fuel station attendant.
Clearing Up Confusion
It is important to distinguish this case from other high-profile fugitives. While the FBI is also searching for Bhadreshkumar Chetanbhai Patel (wanted for a 2015 Maryland murder and currently on the Ten Most Wanted list), these two cases are unrelated.
