The Incident

The crash occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. near Winston Churchill Boulevard. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):

  • A pickup truck traveling in the eastbound collector lanes struck a crash cushion—the impact barrier separating the collector and express systems.
  • The force of the collision launched the vehicle into the express lanes, where it came to a rest.
  • Despite being rushed to a trauma center, the driver succumbed to his injuries.

Commuter Impact & Road Status

The investigation triggered a massive bottleneck during the morning rush:

  • Closure: Eastbound express lanes were shuttered from Mississauga Road to Mavis Road.
  • Duration: While initially expected to clear by midday, the lanes remained closed until approximately 1:00 p.m. for debris removal and forensic mapping.
  • Current Status: All lanes have since reopened, though residual delays may still affect the surrounding arterial roads.

Appeal for Information

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt and the OPP are urging anyone with dashcam footage or who may have witnessed the pickup truck’s movements prior to the crash to come forward.
