A 36-year-old man is dead following a high-impact, single-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga early Friday morning. The incident caused a near-total standstill for commuters as investigators worked to clear the scene.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. near Winston Churchill Boulevard. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):
- A pickup truck traveling in the eastbound collector lanes struck a crash cushion—the impact barrier separating the collector and express systems.
- The force of the collision launched the vehicle into the express lanes, where it came to a rest.
- Despite being rushed to a trauma center, the driver succumbed to his injuries.
Commuter Impact & Road Status
The investigation triggered a massive bottleneck during the morning rush:
- Closure: Eastbound express lanes were shuttered from Mississauga Road to Mavis Road.
- Duration: While initially expected to clear by midday, the lanes remained closed until approximately 1:00 p.m. for debris removal and forensic mapping.
- Current Status: All lanes have since reopened, though residual delays may still affect the surrounding arterial roads.
