Unprecedented Speed and Severity

Dr. Karl Jallad, Chief Medical Officer at the Lebanese American University Medical Centre, noted that the hospital had almost no time to prepare between hearing the explosions and seeing the first victims.

We immediately knew we were facing something different,” Jallad told BBC News, highlighting that the scale of the trauma surpassed previous experiences in the conflict.

A Humanitarian Crisis Across Generations

Lebanese Health Minister Dr. Firass Abiad categorized the scenes as “devastating,” drawing attention to the wide demographic of the wounded. He cited extreme cases involving:

  • An eight-month-old child suffering from severe injuries.
  • A 90-year-old man who ultimately died from his wounds despite medical efforts.

The Rising Toll

The conflict has entered a more lethal phase since Israel launched its expanded military campaign last month.

While Israel maintains that its operations are strategically targeted at Hezbollah’s military capabilities, the reality inside Beirut’s hospitals is one of a civilian infrastructure struggling to cope with the sheer volume of “devastating” human loss.
