If you’re a central government employee with a Basic Salary of ₹50,000 under the 7th CPC, you’re likely wondering how the upcoming 8th Pay Commission could impact your take-home pay. While the official notification for the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) is still awaited, financial experts at Ambit Capital have offered some intriguing projections.

Expected Salary Hikes

Ambit Capital anticipates the 8th CPC will recommend a fitment factor ranging from 1.82 to 2.46. This means central government employees could see their monthly payouts increase by 14% to 54% after factoring in inflation.

Let’s break down how your salary might change under three hypothetical fitment scenarios, assuming your current Basic Salary is ₹50,000, Dearness Allowance (DA) is 60% (₹30,000), House Rent Allowance (HRA) is ₹15,000, and Travel Allowance (TA) is ₹2,160. This puts your current total monthly salary under the 7th CPC at ₹97,160.

(Note: The DA rate is projected to hit 60% by the end of 2025. Also, the 8th CPC will likely reset DA to zero initially.)

Scenario 1: Pessimistic Fitment (1.82x)

  • New Basic Salary: ₹91,000 (₹50,000 x 1.82)
  • Estimated HRA & TA: ₹21,840 and ₹2,457 respectively
  • Total Monthly Salary: ₹115,297
  • Increase from 7th CPC: ₹18,137 per month

Scenario 2: Middle Case Fitment (2.15x)

  • New Basic Salary: ₹107,500 (₹50,000 x 2.15)
  • Estimated HRA & TA: ₹25,800 and ₹2,903 respectively
  • Total Monthly Salary: ₹136,203
  • Increase from 7th CPC: ₹39,043 per month

Scenario 3: Optimistic Case Fitment (2.46x)

  • New Basic Salary: ₹123,200 (₹50,000 x 2.46)
  • Estimated HRA & TA: ₹24,640 and ₹3,326 respectively
  • Total Monthly Salary: ₹151,166
  • Increase from 7th CPC: ₹54,006 per month
