CBI Arrests Absconding Accused in a Rape Case related to Post Poll Violence during State Assembly Elections in West Bengal

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an absconding accused on 12.08.2025 in a Rape case related to  Post Poll Violence during State Assembly Elections in the State of West Bengal in the year 2021.

CBI registered the case on 30.08.2021. It has been alleged that on 04.05.2021 the accused entered the house of victim and committed rape on her.

CBI had filed chargesheet against the accused on 05.05.2022 before the Court of Ld. Special Judge SC/ ST(POA) Act, Tamluk, Purba Medinipur.

The accused had been granted bail vide Order dated 25.09.2024 passed by the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta.

CBI had filed an SLP in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India challenging the aforesaid order of the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta.

In spite of service of notice, neither the accused nor his Advocate appeared before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.  Thereafter, on 02.08.2025, a non bailable warrant of arrest was issued against the accused and CBI was directed to produce him before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on 13.08.2025.

After concerted efforts and on the basis of technical inputs, the accused who had been hiding near a mosque at Ilaychipur, Ghaziabad has been arrested and will be produced before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India today i.e. on 13.08.2025.
