Multiple professional organizations and tax bodies, including the Bhilwara Tax Bar Association and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), are pushing for an extension of the September 30 deadline for filing Tax Audit Reports (TAR) for the 2025-26 assessment year.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Bhilwara Tax Bar Association has formally taken its plea to the Rajasthan High Court by filing a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution. They’ve cited several reasons for the extension, all pointing to significant challenges faced by taxpayers and tax professionals:
- Ongoing Glitches: The income tax portal continues to experience technical issues, making it difficult to file reports smoothly.
- Delayed Forms: The release of essential ITR forms and utilities was significantly delayed, leaving very little time for the completion of audit-related tasks.
- Limited Work Time: The deadline falls during a festive season, which reduces the number of working days.
- Natural Disasters: The petition also mentions the impact of floods and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, which have disrupted normal operations.
While the Income Tax Department has not yet responded to the requests, previous instances of widespread technical issues have led to deadline extensions in the past.
