The Incident

The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the vehicle—carrying five men in total—reportedly lost control during a high-speed overtaking maneuver. The car collided with a stationary truck parked along the roadside.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were primary factors in the crash. Authorities have not yet confirmed who was behind the wheel at the time of the collision.

Casualties and Condition

Matchroom Boxing confirmed the deaths of two members of Joshua’s inner circle, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

  • Joshua’s Status: The boxer sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He is currently in stable condition and remains under medical observation.
  • Other Passengers: Two other individuals involved in the crash reportedly escaped without injury.

Official Reactions

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu issued a statement expressing his deep sympathy for Joshua and the families of Ghami and Ayodele, characterizing the event as a “tragic accident.”

Former opponent Jake Paul, whom Joshua defeated just over a week ago in Miami, also took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer his condolences: “Praying for the lost lives, AJ, and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”

Looking Ahead

Joshua, who spent part of his childhood in Nigeria, was visiting the country following his recent knockout victory over Jake Paul. While fans have been looking forward to a long-awaited mega-fight against Tyson Fury in 2026, all professional plans are currently on hold as the boxing community mourns the loss of his teammates.
