In a surprise declaration from his Asia trip, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he has granted South Korea approval to build a nuclear-powered submarine in the Philadelphia Shipyards.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Trump hailed the move as a monumental breakthrough in defense and trade, signaling a “BIG COMEBACK” for American shipbuilding. The nuclear submarine, a long-sought asset for Seoul, is intended to replace its current diesel fleet and significantly boost its capacity to track North Korean and Chinese vessels for extended periods.

The decision is tied to a massive new economic and defense package finalized with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. According to Trump, the deal includes sweeping financial and energy commitments from Seoul:
- Tariff Concession: South Korea has allegedly agreed to pay the U.S. $350 billion in exchange for lower U.S. tariffs.
- Energy and Investment: Seoul also committed to buying “vast quantities” of U.S. oil and gas, with investments from South Korean companies and businesspeople projected to exceed $600 billion.

This approval marks a major deviation from long-standing U.S. policy, which previously restricted Seoul from developing nuclear propulsion technology without Washington’s consent under a bilateral pact.
