Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. The attack sent shockwaves across the country and reignited intense debates over political violence.
“Today we honor and remember a beloved leader who galvanised the next generation like nobody I’ve ever seen before,” Trump stated, emphasizing Kirk’s profound influence on young conservatives and his crucial role in the President’s 2024 campaign.
Since the killing, President Trump has actively portrayed Kirk as a “martyr for American freedom.” The tragedy has been used to rally his political base and justify a sweeping directive to federal agencies, including the FBI, DHS, and IRS, to investigate groups accused of funding or organizing political violence labeled as “radical left extremism.”
The ceremony was attended by numerous high-ranking Republican officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
