The body of Bipin Joshi, a 23-year-old Nepali student hailed as a hero, has been returned to Israel by Hamas as part of the landmark ceasefire agreement brokered by President Donald Trump.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Joshi was one of four deceased hostages whose remains were returned on Monday. His remains were brought to Tel Aviv, confirming the tragic end of a two-year ordeal that began with his abduction from Kibbutz Alumim. Israeli officials believe Joshi was tragically killed in captivity in the early months of the conflict.

The Act of Bravery That Saved 17 Lives
Bipin Joshi, an agriculture student in Israel’s ‘Learn and Earn Programme,’ was at Kibbutz Alumim on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants stormed the community.
Eyewitnesses, including his friend Bibhusha Adhikari, described Joshi’s extraordinary courage under fire:
“Two grenades were thrown into our room, and Bipin picked them up and threw them back,” Adhikari told The Himalayan Times. “If he had hesitated, none of us would have survived.”
His swift action saved the lives of at least 17 colleagues who were sheltering with him. Sadly, ten other Nepali workers were killed during the initial attack.

Part of a Historic Hostage Exchange
Joshi’s return was a critical component of the Donald Trump-brokered peace deal that has been called a “truly historic” breakthrough. The full exchange included:
- Hamas releasing all 20 surviving hostages.
- Israel freeing 1,968 Palestinian prisoners.
- Hamas returning the remains of four deceased captives, including Joshi and Israeli national Guy Iluz.
Following the confirmation of his death, Joshi’s family—who had tirelessly campaigned for his release—are now preparing for his final rites in Nepal. The IDF has pledged to handle his remains with honor and is coordinating a formal, state-supported burial for the hero who saved so many.
