On Monday, President Trump singled out Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “very good friend” who has “done a fantastic job.” He then pivoted to Pakistan, expressing his belief that India and Pakistan would “live very nicely together.”
Trump turned and gestured to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was standing behind him, and quipped: “He is going to help make that happen, right?” The remark drew laughter from Sharif.
Pakistan Credits Trump for Averting Nuclear War
Speaking immediately after Trump, Prime Minister Sharif publicly thanked the US President, giving him credit for diffusing a potential nuclear conflict between the two nations following the recent military confrontation.
“Had it not been for this gentleman… the war could have escalated to a level where no one would have lived to tell what happened,” Sharif stated, referring to Trump’s intervention during the four-day clashes.
Trump, who has often taken credit for preventing the India-Pakistan war, listed it among “eight conflicts” he helped stop during an earlier address to the Knesset in Israel. However, India maintains that the May 10 ceasefire was reached through direct talks between its and Pakistan’s Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

India’s Role and Modi’s Support
India was represented at the Summit by Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, who attended as Prime Minister Modi’s special envoy. This was the first official meeting between an Indian minister and Trump since Operation Sindoor (the military action India launched in May 2025).
In a post on X, PM Modi praised Trump’s “unwavering peace efforts” in brokering the Gaza ceasefire deal and welcomed the release of the final 20 living hostages.
The summit concluded with Trump signing a landmark ceasefire document alongside leaders from across the Arab and Muslim world, marking what he called a “new and beautiful day” for the Middle East.
