The primary goal of the summit is to end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and enhance peace and stability in the Middle East. The meeting follows a recent Israeli ceasefire and partial troop withdrawal.
However, the peace efforts face immediate hurdles: the militant group Hamas has announced it will boycott the official signing of the peace deal, citing disagreements with key elements of Trump’s plan, such as disarmament. The summit occurs after the October 7, 2023, attack, and is concurrent with a large prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.

Though the PM won’t be there, MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh will represent India.

India’s Commitment to Middle East Peace Confirmed at Gaza Summit
India’s dedication to regional stability in the Middle East remains firm, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs’ decision to send Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh to the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The invitation to attend was extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The summit, jointly chaired by President El-Sisi and President Donald Trump, is a critical effort to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza. It aims to secure a lasting peace and regional security, building on the recent ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
The high-level attendance—including the UN Secretary-General and several European heads of government—underscores the global concern over the conflict. While India engages in this multinational effort, the path forward is complex, marked by Hamas’s decision to boycott the official signing due to disagreements over disarmament and proposals to relocate Palestinians. India’s presence ensures its voice is heard as the international community navigates these difficult negotiations.
