FASTag Annual Pass rolling out on August 15: All you need to know

Beginning on August 15, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is introducing a FASTag Annual Pass to simplify toll payments and reduce congestion at toll plazas on eligible national highways and expressways. Here is a summary of the key information about the new pass:

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll plan for private, non-commercial vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans. For a one-time fee of ₹ 3,000, it provides up to 200 toll crossings or one year of travel, whichever comes first.

How to Purchase the Pass

The pass can be purchased and activated through official platforms. You can go to the NHAI’s official website or use the “Rajmarg Yatra” mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. The process is as follows:

  1. Log in with your mobile number.
  2. Enter your vehicle registration number and existing FASTag ID.
  3. The system will verify your eligibility (e.g., that your FASTag is active, correctly affixed, and not blacklisted).
  4. Pay the ₹ 3,000 fee online using various payment options like UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.
  5. The pass will be linked to your existing FASTag and is typically activated within two hours. You will receive an SMS confirmation upon activation.

Eligibility and Rules

  • Vehicle Type: The pass is exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, and vans). Commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, or taxis are not eligible.
  • Existing FASTag: You do not need to buy a new FASTag. The annual pass can be linked to your current one, provided it is valid and meets the eligibility criteria.
  • Validity: The pass is valid for one year from the date of activation or until 200 crossings are completed, whichever occurs first.
  • Coverage: The pass is only valid on national highways and expressways managed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and NHAI. It will not work on state highways or municipal toll roads, where regular FASTag charges will apply.
  • Non-transferable: The pass is linked to a single, registered vehicle and cannot be transferred.

What Happens After Expiration?

Once you have completed 200 crossings or the one-year validity period has passed, the pass will automatically expire. Your FASTag will then revert to the traditional pay-per-use system, and toll fees will be deducted from your linked FASTag wallet as usual. To continue using the benefits of the pass, you will need to re-activate it by paying the ₹ 3,000 fee again.
