CM Gupta Bags ₹600 Cr from Centre for Delhi Development

Delhi Secures ₹600 Crore from Centre for Development

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, successfully securing an assurance of ₹600 crore under the Centre’s “Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)” scheme. These crucial funds are expected to be released by the end of July, pending a formal proposal from the Delhi government.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Finance’s office, CM Gupta briefed Minister Sitharaman on key development priorities for Delhi, including urban infrastructure, traffic congestion, green energy, and drainage systems. She also provided updates on existing schemes and highlighted areas needing urgent attention.

“Delhi’s development is a shared responsibility, and the Union Government has assured its continued support,” CM Gupta stated after the productive discussion, calling it an example of “cooperative federalism in practice.”

The ₹600 crore will be channeled into bolstering capital expenditure across vital sectors. This includes significant investments in road and drainage infrastructure, solid waste management, and clean energy initiatives, all aimed at accelerating pending development work throughout the city.

The SASCI scheme, launched in 2020-21, provides 50-year interest-free loans to states and union territories. Its primary goal is to stimulate infrastructure growth and create jobs, particularly in the post-pandemic economic recovery.
