The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in a money laundering case linked to the Shikohpur land deal in Haryana.
The chargesheet, filed on July 17, 2025, reportedly includes Vadra’s name along with several other individuals and firms, according to news agency ANI.
This development is part of an ongoing investigation into a 2008 land transaction where Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality Pvt Ltd, bought 3.5 acres of land in Shikohpur, Gurugram, for Rs 7.5 crore. It’s alleged that the same land was later sold to DLF Universal Limited for a much higher price of Rs 58 crore. The ED suspects these significant profits are indicative of a money laundering scheme.
The case initially stemmed from an FIR filed by Haryana police in 2018. Allegations suggest that Skylight Hospitality was able to acquire the land due to the influence of the then-Congress government in Haryana, led by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. This government then allegedly secured a commercial license for the land, drastically increasing its value. There are also claims of a quid pro quo arrangement between the Hooda government and DLF.
Robert Vadra has consistently denied the allegations, calling the ED’s actions a “political witch hunt” and an “abuse of investigative agencies by the BJP.” He maintains his innocence and states he has cooperated fully with the agency.
The Shikohpur land deal has a long history, including the cancellation of the land purchase in 2012 by an IAS officer, followed by a clean chit from an in-house government panel in 2013. The BJP government later established the Justice S.N. Dhingra Commission in 2015, which reportedly implicated Hooda and called for further inquiry. While the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the Dhingra Commission’s report in 2019, it clarified that a new inquiry wouldn’t be precluded. More recently, in April 2023, the Haryana government submitted an affidavit to the P&H High Court stating no violations were found in the land transfer.
The ED’s investigation has spanned several years, with Vadra being summoned and questioned multiple times. While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been mentioned in connection with other land purchases from an agent involved in the case, she has not been named as an accused in this particular chargesheet related to the Shikohpur deal.
